Did he actually survive in the other version?? Please say yes! Sad

The moment Karver slipped, an emotion shot through the Northern she-wolf like a lightning bolt. This feeling, so horrible she could use no words to describe, left her in place with her muscles tingling and a black hole in her chest that devoured her senses. She gaped as she watched Karver's last moments, her mouth dry and her pupils mere pebbles in the center of her wide eyes. She stood there, trembling as the blond wolf's head finally went under, even as she heard Jaro cry as Jheera howled, even Korra hissed and Velyria whispered that it wasn't her fault. A moment passed with the Northern she-wolf taking fast, heavy breaths, a ball of sickness growing in her stomach. Then, with deep shadows cast over her eyes, she stumbled a step back, her legs stiffer than sticks, and then another. Slowly, her head empty of thoughts, she turned around and began padding back into the swamp.

((Eeyup! Korra's plan would have worked but Karver probably would have expired later in plot anyways ^^; ))
((Remember all actions will have consequences that will effect the story later Lol ))

As the three Muckwater wolves mourned their fallen packmate the panther prince had glanced up to see the Northern she-wolf start to walk away. he rose to his feet and padded his way over to her as she sulked. "Hey, are you alright?" the panther's voice was shaky and unsure. "I-it was unfair to put you in the spot like that but... I needed an outside opinion, ya know?" His head hung low and his eyes were firmly fixated on the ground as they walked together.

After a long moment of being silent, he spoke again. "I don't know how it is where you come from, but here we have a firm belief about our dead. That they never truly leave us when they're gone. Their soul will still be around us: that warm sun on your back, cooling rain, a successful hunt." Korra looked to the she-wolf. "That belief probably has something to do with being around elephants for generations."
Well, oops! Lol But that's life. You have no idea what will happen when you make a choice. You can only hope for the best and expect the worse))

Eeey! XD I get the reference Lol ))

The Northern she-wolf said nothing as she continued to walk from the scene. The only sign of acknowledgement to Korra's presence she gave was the slight turn of her head away from him. She listened to his words, but she took no comfort in them.

"...Why me?" she finally murmured, "Why, of everyone's opinion, did you seek mine? I don't know my own name, and you expected me to..."
She slowed to a stop, her head lowering to the ground. "Better yet, why didn't you act on your own, your majesty?" In her head was the image of Korra racing up the tree, perfectly balanced on that branch, not falling into the pit as she'd been afraid he would. "Why did you wait on me? Why did you just stand around and wait for me to call the shots? Is a King really so useless that he has to rely on a wolf with nothing in her head to tell him what to do?!"

(Sorry Korra! Sad )

((Naji just yelled at someone who's about 13-17 in human years! Shame! XD ))
((I RP him a lot more older than he actually is so it's my bad!))

Korra's eyes went back immediately at the she-wolf's sharp tone. His tail tucked between his legs as he looked to her with wide eyes. "I-I"

The honesty stung his heart. He knew she was right. He pawed at the ground and remained silent, shoulders slumped and feeling really small.

"Because you seem smart," he weakly said.

(Najmah: Wait, but he and Moonpelt were friends, weren't they? Which means Korra's been around for at least 4 years? I thought they were the same age? Unless Korra's younger than Moonpelt...)

The Northern she-wolf snorted and turned away.

"Well obviously I'm not," she spat. Then, with her head hanging between her shoulders and the fur at the tip of her tail trailing along the ground, she began to walk away once more.

A moment later, the plants behind Korra rustled and Jaro appeared. His eyes had a red tinge to them and he wore an expression of grief. He looked after the departing Northern wolf and then to the panther in front of him.
"...I...I heard the last bit... Korra, no one knew what would happen. It's...It's no one's fault... ...Okay?"

Korra nodded, his tail started to twitch. "I didn't know if it was a good idea." He looked to the wolf beside him, his eyes were puffy and lost their princely gleam.

(Oh my goodness, 13-17! Korra really is a kid! *squee* He's adorable!! Wacko ) (...Aw man, Naji crushed his soul! DX )

Jaro walked up beside Korra and bumped his shoulder against his.

"It was a good idea. But no one knew what would... Yes, you probably could have saved him. But at the same time, you could have died with him. No one knew what was going to happen."

The male wolf let out a long, sad sigh through his nose. Then he looked behind him.

"Alpha's comforting sis. I don't know how long they'll be. But we should head back to Thornbrook soon. Hopefully anyone who heard sis is already heading back, but I might need to howl to be sure they all got the message." He looked ahead of them. "As for that Northern wolf... I wonder if she knows where she's going?..."

The Northern she-wolf did not, in fact, know where she was going. And frankly, she didn't care. She was putting distance between her and the tar pit that had claimed the life of the one she had become responsible for. All she hoped was that she would not come across another Thornbrook wolf for a long while. She didn't think she could handle facing them after failing to save their packmate.

In the direction Najmah headed, one tree clustered in the swamp seemed darker than those around it as the sun started to fade. Through the evening light the tiny movements within the branches seemed like leaves in the wind. The thin streaks of liquid sliding down the trunk must have looked like water or sap. Who could have guessed that the top of the "tree" was merely a creature, splayed out and watching on a stump. Rows of eyes blinked one by one as they watched the wolf coming closer. The thick mucus-like salivation continued to stream from the monster's mouth as it waited with impatience.

______________

"Always remember that power is a double edged blade. One side light and the other dark. It calls to you when you are most desperate, when victory seems worth any sacrifice. There is a price to be paid for such a gift, and many eagerly accept the bargain. The righteous and the meek may recoil at its cost, but they have no vision. Power alone is not to be feared, fear instead those who wield it." - Jaina Proudmoore (Knights of The Frozen Throne)

Najmah: affraid No, do not kill! DO NOT KILL!!

The Northern she-wolf trudged onward through the swamp, letting her paws carry her in whichever direction they pleased. She paid no heed to her surroundings, only half-heartedly glancing around for tar pits like the one that had claimed Karver.
It wasn't her fault. She had called for him to jump, but what he been doing on that log in the first place? He should have run around the tar pit, not jumped on that slippery log right in it. And what about the other wolves? They could have done something, anything, instead of standing around and taking so long to figure out what to do. And that panther, he should have acted on his own. Or at least asked the other wolves their opinion since he oh-so-badly needed one. If they'd done that, she wouldn't have called the blond wolf to his death. It wasn't her fault. So why did it hurt. Why couldn't she let go of this burden that wasn't hers to bare? Why couldn't she believe it wasn't her fault?

The Northern she-wolf lifted her head and watched the sun's light turn a darker orange as it set. It was morning when she and the whole pack had left the camp, but it hadn't seemed that long ago. Had a whole day really passed?
Well, whatever, she thought as she dropped her head again. The only good thing about this day was that it was ending. She hoped the Thornbrooks made it back to their camp in safety, without losing anyone else to this swamp. As for herself... She would just keep walking. She had no place to be and no reason to stop.

And so, meters away from the tree that was topped by the creature she didn't detect, she passed by. This tree was faded out in her vision. She was too wrapped up in her own thoughts to notice the peculiarities of it, too tunnel visioned to notice the "sap", and too out of it to think to check her surroundings for danger.

An otherworldly scream ripped through the air, like shards of glass being dragged across a chalkboard and the sound of a squealing infant in pain. At the same time, Spindle's eight legs rippled down the side of the half-tree, his now-massive scorpion tail dragging down the bark on his way down. Dozens of pulsating, red eyes locked onto their target, the wolf only feet way. The creature's face was still split open between the jaws in a screech as it landed, strings of mucus rolling off the teeth. Two large mandibles clicked on either side of the split mouth, a luminescent green liquid dripping from the tips and the drops sizzling in the dirt below.

In the center of it's mouth, the tongue was made up of a small, fleshy tube. From this orifice a mist began to swirl, until soon the fog was pouring out of Spindle's mouth, swirling around Najmah's paws.

Let's see... Korra left her and her twin (that we forgot to tell Silv she could RP if she wanted to Lol I seriously hope she names him/her Metadata XD) at the camp to protect it. Since half the day is gone, maybe you can say your panther left camp to go find Korra and make sure he's alright? If that were the case, I would guess she, as well as everyone in the Muckwaters, would have heard Spindle's screech. Do what you will with that info, but keep in mind that Najmah is quite a distance away from everyone, so unless Vashta got horribly lost on her way to find her king and wound up near Najmah, it might be a little strange to have her go super kitty, jump in and save the day. XD)

But I'm only speaking logically here! As long as it makes sense for Vashta to be wherever she is, whether it be at camp, heading toward Korra, heading toward Najmah, or anywhere else in the Muckwaters, have her be wherever you want her to be and...Insert something inspiring about RPing her in this sentence! 'Cuz everything I'm coming up with sounds cheesy!)

(sorry it took me so long to reply to this! I wanted to figure out exactly what Najmah was to see before we got to that point)

"?!"
Like an unseen force was clamping down on her whole being, the horrendous scream completely paralyzed the northern she-wolf. The ringing in her ears were the only thing she could hear after a brief moment of deafness. Pupils dilated and breaths coming out in short, ragged bursts, the she-wolf fought with the stiff muscles of her neck just to turn her head enough to see the monster from the corner of her eye. She could feel the fog flowing over her paws, but her focus was on the giant, arachnid thing that came her way. Her breathing became even shorter, quicker, more unstable. Through her tightened throat, a strangled, horrified whimper sounded. She tried to move, but the paralysis still held, only allowing the she-wolf to move her limbs centimeters a second.
Run! her soul was screaming as it tried to rip itself free from the prison that was her body, RUN! RUN! YOU'RE GOING TO DIE! RUN!!

The she-wolf began to stumble away on stiff legs, much too slow.
GET OUT OF THERE!!
Letting out a horrified shriek, the she-wolf, with her body screaming out in cold pain, turned tail and ran, her footing clumsy and still much too slow.

The creature's large limbs creeped forward after the wolf, pressing down into the cool mud just behind her. Spindle's legs skittered forward with a slimy slithering noise, trails of saliva dripping from it's large mandibles as it gave chase.

Chase chase chase! EAT!

The creature's large limbs creeped forward after the wolf, pressing down into the cool mud just behind her. Spindle's legs skittered forward with a slimy slithering noise, trails of saliva dripping from it's large mandibles as it gave chase.
Now that she was moving, and hearing the slithering sounds close behind her, the She-Wolf snapped out her semi-paralyzed state and leapt a good distance ahead. Adrenaline surging through her muscles, she ran at full speed ahead, covering several meters in just a couple seconds. Her eyes locked on to a tree she was nearing just to her right. Acting on instinct, she made a sharp 90° turn around this tree. This would've made an obstacle for Spindle, but when the she-wolf's paws met the mossy marsh ground, with the full force of her body behind them, she slid sideways instead of completing the turn. The She-Wolf tried to regain control of her movement, but as she scrambled with her paws to move forward once more, her nails gouging chunks of moss from the swamp floor, the ground to her left dropped so suddenly that she completely lost her footing. She fell on her shoulder, flipped over to her other side, and continued tumbling down a somewhat steep, springy slope the length of 2 1/2 gray wolf strides. Then, at the point where the ground leveled out again, she hit head-on and slid through brown mush. Without missing a beat, the She-Wolf scrambled back to her paws, the watery soil making squelching sounds as she struggled to pull out of it. Cold mud clung to the fur of her face, shoulders, and sides, small bits dripping and splattering off of her with every movement she made.

[[Meanwhile, Nearby...]]

Vashta stared up at the night sky, several thoughts going through her head. Prince Korra had been acting...interesting, lately, and a few things he had said had set her off. At first chance, she had slipped away, annoyed at how childish he could be sometimes. She was take from her thoughts momentarily, when a faint scream, somewhere close enough to be heard, but definitely out of sight, seemed to crack the night open. Vashta silently stood, peering around into the semi-darkness, seeing nothing. That scream...hadn't been from something...normal, to say the least. For this reason, Vashta hesitated a moment before darting off into the night, to where she thought she had heard the scream. If someone was really in danger, she felt the need to help, but she wasn't about to just jump in and risk her own tail. She would observe, and take he best plan of action.

Spindle's massive, barbed tail stabbed into the mud where Najmah had fallen moments after she had scrambled to her paws. The creature hissed in frustration, swiping a small tree out of the way in anger as it's prey headed deeper into the woods. Crunching over fallen logs, and creating some as it tore through the underbrush, Spindle was determined to give chase. A hunger gnawed in it's belly, fueling it's rows of beady eyes with a desperate desire.

Not willing to let the wolf drive it into thicker woods, Spindle paused to suck in a huge breath of air, settled down into a spider's closest form to a crouch, and released a spray from moist, green fog that quickly gained on the wolf.

(She can avoid it, get hit by it and recover some memories through hallucination, or recover nothing and just see some crazy stuff without knowing what it is. XD)

(Splendid use of that GIF! And yay, I did something GIF worthy! cheers Lol Thanks!) (Unless you were talking about Eco. In which case... ECO I AM STEALING YOUR GLORY!! *steals Eco's glory*)

(Understood! XD) (By the way, for the reference of either now and/or the future, where are Spindle's soft spots and how difficult are they to hit? It might be good for me, and Eco since Vashta is on the way, to know in case of a short fight and the characters need a lucky strike in order to escape or something, if that happens! Yes? No? Maybe?)

At the same time that the she-wolf yanked herself free of the mud-pit for squishy, but more solid ground, the barbs of the creature's tail scored down her right rear side, leaving large scratches through her haunches and the back of her leg. The she-wolf screamed, terror rather than pain in her voice, and dashed with everything she had deeper into the thickening woods. Blood flew from the flesh wound with every stride, and the she-wolf registered no pain.
Up ahead of her, she could see a clump of trees with a gap she thought she could fit through. It wasn't a straight shot, what with many obstacles in her way that would sometimes block her view, but she was driven to reach it. And then as she was nearing it, Spindle's green fog rushed past and completely overtook her.
Breathing in the stuff felt like she was breathing in water droplets with the thick gases that rise from a rotting corpse. The she-wolf violently gagged, opening her mouth wide as she tried to breath in fresh air. But being surrounded by the green, the horrible fog was all she got. She staggered in her steps, her vision flickering with black. Right in front of her was the clump of trees. She surged through the gap, the space between those trees so small that the bark pressed through her fur and scraped her skin as she forced herself through.
There were actually many more trees that she had to pull past, so many that her full body length was completely trapped for a moment until she broke through the other side. With one final pull to free herself, she immediately collapsed onto moss and shallow swamp water. She had only been trying to put a significant obstacle in Spindle's path, but what she'd forced herself into was a tight, thick circlet of trees with a round clearing just large enough for her to make a short jump from one side to the other. Spindle could still tear its way through to get to her, but it would take a few minutes, more or less depending on where it struck, to create a path big enough for it to get through.
In the center of the small clearing, the she-wolf was curled inward with her back arching to the sky, her body shaking and soft whimpers leaving her throat.

[Lol, both valid points, Wild. Soo yeah Jay? Who was you referring to and some info on Spindle's weaknesses?]

Vashta, slinking quickly through the night, trying to avoid most of the mud pits, slowed as she heard a wolf howling in terror. She shook her head, wondering why she was doing this again, and sprinted ahead full speed, splashing through bits of mud now without care.

Spindle raged through the thin trees, unphased as the bark grew tougher the deeper the undergrowth. He released another wicked scream, spewing more noxious gasses from his jaws as he ripped through the mud-soaked weeds. He could sense the wolf's heartbeats, his sensitive limbs felt the ground for vibrations as the leaves blocked his view of his prey.

"...Have to...run..." the she-wolf rasped, coughing as she inhaled more of the creature's gases. She raised herself back to her trembling limbs. Her eyes having been shut, her eyelids slowly raised open as her head began to shakily raise upward. And then her eyes shot wide open and she snapped to her attention. Her gaze was locked ahead, but no other eyes could see what she was seeing. The she-wolf seemed to be at a loss for words, but as the beats pounded by, her expression grew more horrified.

"Wait...no. No!" she barked, and she shot forward. The trees ahead of her were tightly interlaced, but shoved her way through the gaps. She pulled, leapt, and scraped through the thickening forest, repeatedly yelling out commands for some unknown thing to stop.
"Leave them alone!" she was yelling, her voice jumping to different octaves, "Stop it! Stop! Get away from her! Get away-NO! MOM, NO!!"

The she-wolf stumbled and looked around in disbelief before throwing herself against a tree.
"NO! THIS CAN'T-!"
With panicked growls, she raked her claws against the bark. She slammed herself paws first against the tree and frantically tried to get through it, only succeeding to rip bits of bark off. She yelped in pain as a good sized splinter pierced the flesh between her right paw's toes, but she continued her work.
"Hold on! Hold on, I'll be there! Just let me get through-!"
And then seemingly without reason, the she-wolf froze in her actions. Her breathing was hard, and it sounded as if she was forcing her breaths out of a tight throat. With her wide-eyed gaze fixated somewhere through the tree, her muzzle barely moved as she spoke in a hoarse whisper.
"Too late?... No, no, I'm not- I can make it. I-I'm strong enough, I am-I will save-"
The scream that shot from her throat was short and high-pitched. She fell over side-ways and curled into fetal position the moment she hit the ground and covered head with her paws. She stayed like that, her consistent flinches and whimpers like spasms for the next few moments. Then slowly, as if in surprise, she removed her paws from her eyes and stared up at nothing in disbelief. She was shaking her head, her maw moving as if wanting to speak.
"N-No... H-Hold on..." she finally whimpered as she slowly got back to her paws. She took a faltering step forward, her body trembling slightly. "Don't... Don't leave-It's not- I'm not-! Come back! Wait-!"
As the wolf tried to dash forward, her back paw got caught in tree roots. She fell to the ground with a short yelp, and when she looked back to see what had happened, her eyes shot wide open in terror. She yanked her paw out of the roots and violently tried scrambling away from air, but soon stopped moving forward and started screaming as she flailed about on the mossy, muddy ground.
"HELP ME!!" she shrieked, turning back to whatever was leaving her. "HELP ME, HELP! SAVE ME! ROSE!! DRELLAN, JURY!! COME BACK! PLEASE!!"
